What began as a gathering place for old friends quickly grew into a vibrant hub for both sporting and social life in Johannesburg.<br><br>Today, the Jeppe Quondam Club remains true to its founding spirit \u2014 a place where camaraderie, competition, and tradition come together, and where members can both celebrate the past and create new memories for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-466a838d\">From the outset, the club combined a strong sense of community with a passion for sport. Over the decades, its members have achieved remarkable success on the playing fields \u2014 not only locally, but across South Africa and internationally. The records, photographs, and trophies proudly displayed in the clubhouse tell the story of these achievements and the club\u2019s enduring legacy.<br><br>Few schools and alumni organisations can match the 275 international players in 66 different sports who have emerged from Jeppe and its Quondam Club. Beyond the athletes themselves, Jeppe\u2019s influence extends through coaches, administrators, and leaders who have left their mark on the sporting world.<br><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-element-375603fa\">\n<h2 class=\"gb-text gb-text-01ce5f84\">Our Foundations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-16c08ee3\">On <strong>26 February 1907<\/strong>, the inaugural meeting of the <em>Jeppe Old Boys\u2019 Club<\/em> took place in the school gymnasium. Shortly after, on <strong>30 March 1907<\/strong>, the <em>Quondam Club<\/em> was formed for the Old Girls. Although there were combined social events and shared facilities, the brother and sister committees were soon amalgamated, and a constitution was formally accepted in <strong>1908<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-element-9c526c6e\">\n<h2 class=\"gb-text gb-text-c040c9b1\">Our Badge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<div class=\"gb-element-391cf95b\">\n<div>\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-676c73d3\">In 1907, <strong>Billy Parkin\u2019s design<\/strong> for the club badge was accepted. It incorporated the school colours \u2014 black, white, and a gold bar. The <strong>Southern Cross<\/strong> stars represent heritage and belonging, while the <strong>clasped hands<\/strong> symbolise the enduring bonds of friendship. The club colours were officially registered in <strong>1935<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"189\" height=\"190\" class=\"gb-media-2efc4f0a\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/techost.co.za\/jeppequondamclub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/cropped-Logo-200x200p.png\" title=\"cropped-Logo-200x200p.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/techost.co.za\/jeppequondamclub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/cropped-Logo-200x200p.png 189w, https:\/\/techost.co.za\/jeppequondamclub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/cropped-Logo-200x200p-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-element-8ac547e3\">\n<h2 class=\"gb-text gb-text-ba0ac7ba\">Our Grounds &amp; Facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-dd1e0ea5\">In the early years, the school facilities were used mainly for social and cultural activities. The <em>Village Main Reef<\/em> ground hosted football in <strong>1911<\/strong>, while by <strong>1921<\/strong>, the senior league cricket team and tennis club were using the grounds of the Germiston Caledonian Society at Driehok.<br><br>In <strong>1923<\/strong>, the <em>Jeppe Old Boys\u2019 Club<\/em> became the first Old Boys\u2019 Association in South Africa \u2014 and possibly in the British Empire \u2014 to own its own playing fields. Eight acres were purchased in Kensington for <strong>\u00a3500<\/strong>, with a further <strong>\u00a31,500<\/strong> invested in levelling, fencing, changing rooms, and a pavilion. By <strong>1926<\/strong>, a cricket field and two football fields were completed, followed by four tennis courts and another pavilion in <strong>1927<\/strong>.<br><br>The hockey club was formed in <strong>1928<\/strong>, and the rugby club in <strong>1936<\/strong>. With growing demand, the club acquired the <strong>Bedfordview Polo Club grounds<\/strong> (the current site) in <strong>1939<\/strong>, a thirty-acre expanse, and sold its Kensington property to the Johannesburg City Council. In <strong>1940<\/strong>, a bowling green was laid out, and the old farmhouse <em>Spaarwater<\/em> served as headquarters until the present clubhouse was officially opened in <strong>September 1950<\/strong>.<br><br>Additional land was purchased in <strong>1943<\/strong>, and the club continued to expand its facilities, hosting not only sport but also social events. A highlight was the <strong>1926 fete<\/strong>, where Jeppe played a leading role in raising funds for the combined Old Boys\u2019 movement to secure premises in central Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-element-6d7d36fc\">\n<h2 class=\"gb-text gb-text-1e14141e\">Achievements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p class=\"gb-text gb-text-5de9f538\">For over a century, Jeppe Quondam has been a home of <strong>camaraderie, tradition, and excellence in sport<\/strong>. Generations of past pupils \u2014 and, more recently, members drawn by the Jeppe spirit \u2014 have found belonging here.<br>Records in the <em>Quondam Magazines<\/em> dating back to <strong>1925<\/strong> reflect a proud tradition of success.
